NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate – Exam Information

To successfully complete the NEBOSH Fire Safety e-learning course and achieve your certification, you’ll need to pass two assessments:

1. Open Book Examination (OBE) – Unit FSC1

  • Format: Scenario-based, open book exam.

  • Duration: 24 hours to complete and submit (but typically takes 4–6 hours).

  • Delivery: Completed remotely via NEBOSH’s online platform.

  • Content: You’ll apply your knowledge to a real-life fire safety scenario, answering a series of short and extended response questions.

2. Practical Fire Risk Assessment – Unit FSC2

  • Format: Workplace-based risk assessment.

  • Requirements: You’ll conduct and submit a practical fire risk assessment of a real or simulated workplace.

  • Submission: Uploaded online after completing the OBE.

  • Assessment Criteria: Assesses your ability to identify hazards, evaluate risk, and recommend control measures.

Grading and Results

  • Pass Mark: Typically 45% for each unit.

  • Grades:

    • Pass: 45–64%

    • Credit: 65–74%

    • Distinction: 75% and above

  • Results Released: Approximately 50 working days after the exam date.

Examination Fees

The exams can be taken with ourselves or with another centre.  With ourselves an exam fee of £95.00 per unit also applies to this course which is VAT free, and therefore must be paid separately.  Please contact alternative centres as their prices may vary. 

Duration

The course must be completed online within six months.
