Course Aims and Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals who wish to drive a Reach Truck at a competent
level.

Accreditation

On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.

Content

• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of
controls and gauges
• Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook,
other information sources and applicable legislation
• Carry out pre-checks
• Configure the truck for travel
• Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction, both with and without a load
• Set the truck in order to lift various loads
• Lift various loads within the fill working range of the trucks
• Transport Loads
• Place Loads accurately at various recognized landing points
• Explain precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards
• Keep within safe working parameters
• Place the truck in an out-of-service condition
• Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter

Maximum Numbers

A maximum number of 6 people can be trained at one time.

Venue

The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:
• Serviceable Reach truck that meets current legislation, having a 1 tonne rated lifting capacity or
above with standard forks, ROPS, FOPS and a seatbelt, and the operators manual.
• Loads of known weights able to fit into a racking consisting of:
o Load A: 1 x load not less than 50% of the Forklift’s rated capacity
o Load B: 3 x equal size suitable for stacking
• An area which must have
o Level ground
o A straight run of at least 10 metres
