The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals who wish to drive a transporter at a competentlevel.
Accreditation
On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.Content
• Identify different transporter types and state the purpose of each• Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook,
other information sources and applicable legislation
• Carry out pre-checks
• Explain the requirements for STGO transport
• Prepare an area for the purposes of loading and unloading construction plant
• Prepare a transporter for receiving different items of construction plant
• Agree and give appropriate signals to the plant operator
• Load or guide items of plant onto the transporter
• Position items of plant on a transporter to ensure no overloading of transporter axles
• Ensure integrity and security on items of plant plus attachments
• Prepare a transporter for road travel
• Ensure intended route of travel is compatible with load weight, width and height
• Explain the specific requirements of current legislation for equipment designed for transporting
construction plant
• State the requirements to be undertaken when loading and unloading plant on the public highway
Maximum Numbers
A maximum number of 6 people can be trained at one time.Venue
The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:• Serviceable special types general order (STGO) compliant transporter that meets current
legislation, with the operator’s/drivers manual
• Serviceable plant for loading that meets current legislation, with the operator’s manual
• An area of ground to undertake the loading, unloading and driving exercises
• Appropriate securing equipment
• Additional equipment needed for the loading, stowage and transportation of the items of plant
