The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals who wish to drive a Mobile Crane at a competent level.Accreditation
On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.Content
• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use ofcontrols and gauges
• Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook,
other information sources and applicable legislation
• Carry out pre-checks
• Explain all relevant documentation
• Configure the crane for road travel
• Manoeuvre the crane to the site of operations
• Set up the crane in order to lift various loads
• Fit a lattice type extension or fly jib in order to lift various loads
• Set the rated capacity indicator and/or load radius indicator
• Lift loads at varying radii
• Recognise and respond to given signals or instructions
• Place loads accurately
• Control load swings
• Travel with a suspended load(dependent upon machine type)
• Explain precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards
• Keep within safe working parameters
• Place the crane in an out-of-service position
Maximum Numbers
A maximum number of 6 people can be trained at one time.Venue
The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:• Serviceable mobile crane (wheeled) that meets current legislation
• Suitable loads of known weights
• A measuring tape of sufficient length, able to measure the maximum radius of the crane
• Slinger and signaller assistance

• Suitable certificated lifting accessories for all loads
• An area with facilities for crane travel and parking, a structure(s) to place loads at a height of at least
2 metres, and able to carry out ‘blind’ lifts
