MANUAL HANDLING

Duration: Half Day

Who Should Attend?

All personnel who are required to carry out manual handling operations and require an understanding of how to safely and correctly lift objects.

Course Aims and Objectives

The course is intended to give candidates the knowledge and competence to understand how
musculoskeletal injuries occur, the consequences of injury and how to adopt the correct manual handling
posture to reduce and av oid injury.

At the end of the training course candidates will:

· Understand and know how manual handling injuries are caused
· Understand the need to plan for safe manual handling operations and how to identify safer alternative
methods of lifting and moving loads
· Be able to carry out a basic risk assessment for Manual handling Operations
Content
· Legislation including The Manual Handling Operations Regulations, Management of Health & Safety at
Work Regulations, The Health & Safety at W ork Act.
· Principles of Safe Manual Handling / Kinetic Lifting
· Practical demonstrations of safe lifting techniques

Training Method

The training will be delivered using power point presentation, video aids and practical demonstration.
CITB Grant Aid. There is CITB Grant Aid of £17.50 per person av ailable for the half day course.

Maximum Number of Candidates

The maximum number of candidates for this course is 12.

Venue

This course can be carried out at our training centre in Stockton or at a v enue of your choice providing all
necessary facilities and equipment are available.

Equipment Required (when carrying out training on site)

· Variety of loads that would usually be lifted
· Classroom area with electricity supply and enough tables and chairs to seat all candidates comfortably
and allow our Instructor to set up his training equipment
