Course Aims and Objectives

To instruct and train candidates in the correct procedures and techniques required to ensure the safe
operation of forklifts on site.

Accreditation

On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.

Content

• Regulations and codes of practice
• Legal responsibilities
• The main components and designated purpose, limitations of the safe use and principles of the operation of a forklift.
• Travel controls, travel safety devices and travel warning signals and how to travel in the forklift with and without loads.
• Procedures on setting up a Forklift for work.
• Safely and securely lift various loads within the working range of the forklift.
• Place and retrieve loads safely from various points.
• Routine daily inspections and servicing tasks and safe working parameters.
• Place the forklift in ‘out of service’ condition.

Training Method

A balance between practical exercises and classroom based tutorials.

Maximum Number of Candidates

Due to the large element of practical training the maximum number of delegates is strictly 6.

Venue

This course can be carried out on site providing that adequate facilities and equipment are available.
Equipment required (when carrying out training on site)
• A Counterbalance/Industrial forklift which must be in good working order with all relevant safety
documentation and Operators manual.
• A large suitable internal or external area with firm level ground for practical training, this area
must be safely cordoned off from the “live” working area.
• A variety of suitable loads.
• Classroom area with electricity supply and enough tables and chairs to seat all candidates
comfortably and allow our Instructor to set up his training equipment
