On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.

Course Aims and Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals who wish to drive a 360 Excavator of between 3 and 10 tonnes at a competent level.

Content

• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of
controls and gauges
• Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook,
other information sources and applicable legislation
• Carry out pre-checks
• Configure the excavator for site travel
• Travel the machine over varying types of terrain
• Manoeuvre the excavator in a confined area
• Set the machine to excavate
• Explain precautions to be taken for underground and overhead services and other hazards
• Place soil into various sizes of vehicles/hoppers
• Grade, spread and level different types of terrain
• Remove and re-attach buckets
• Place the machine in an out-of-service condition
• Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter

Maximum Numbers

A maximum number of 6 people can be trained at one time.

Venue

The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:
• Serviceable 360 excavator of between 3 and 10 tonnes with the operators manual
• A vehicle of loading having a minimum capacity equivalent to 6 bucket loads of the excavator
being used
• A replacement bucket for changing purposes
• An area of ground clear of hazards which must include:
o Uneven, rough terrain
o A slope of not less than 18%
o A flat area to allow excavations up to 2 metres deep
o A stockpile of material for loading purposes
