Course Aims and Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals wishing to obtain the necessary skills to drive a forward tipping dumper.

Accreditation

On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.

Content

• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and
gauges
• Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information
sources and applicable legislation
• Carry out pre-checks
• Set the dumper for site and road travel
• Travel over differing types of terrain, including rough undulating ground, both in loaded and unloaded state
• Travel up and down substantial inclines in a loaded and unloaded state
• Maneuver in confined areas using forward and reverse direction, in a loaded and unloaded state
• Position the dumper to receive loads
• Comply with loading procedures
• Ensure loading integrity and security
• Discharge loads into trenchers or over edges
• Place the dumper in an out-of-service condition
• Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter

Maximum Numbers

A maximum number of 6 people can do the training.

Venue

The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:
• Serviceable tracked r wheeled dumper that meets current legislations and must be:
o Not less than 2 tonne load capacity
o ROPS and seatbelt equipped
o With the operators manual
• A means of dumping the loader i.e. loader, excavator, conveyor
• A designated unloading area, being a trench or an edge, at least 0.5 of a metre deep, and a minimum of 2x the
width of the dumper, with appropriate edge protection
• A driving area which must include uneven rough terrain, a slope and a straight run of not less than 30 metres.
