The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals wishing to obtain the necessary skills to drive aForklift Side-Loader.
Accreditation
On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.Content
• Identify the basic construction purpose and function of components and the purpose and use ofcontrols and gauges.
• Indentify and comply with manufacturer’s instructions.
• Carry out all pre-checks
• Configure the Forklift to travel
• Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction, both with and without a load
• Set the forklift in order to lift various loads
• Lift various loads within the full working range of the forklift
• Ensure load integrity and security
• Transport Loads
• Place loads accurately at various recognised landing points
• Explain precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards
• Keep within safe working parameters
• Place the forklift in an out-of-service condition
• Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
Maximum Numbers
A maximum number of 6 people can be trained at one time.Venue
The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:• Serviceable forklift side-loader that meets current legislation, having a 1 tonne rated lift capacity
or above with:
o Standard forks
o ROPS, FOPS and a seatbelt
o The operator’s manual
• Loads of known weight able to fit into a racking and to consist of:
o Load A: 1 x load not less than 50% of the forklifts rated capacity, with a maximum
clearance of 75mm when placed in the racking
o Load B: 3 x similar size palletised loads suitable for stacking
• Racking or block stacks to allow stacking to take place at ground level, eye level and high level.
High level must not be less than 75% of the forklifts maximum operating height
• An area which must have:
o Level ground
o A straight run of atleast 10 metres
