Course Aims and Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide training for individuals who wish to drive a rear tipping rigid chassis type dump truck at a competent level.
Accreditation
On successful completion, the candidates will receive a Northern Safety Accredited certificate.
Content
- Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of controls and gauges
- Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
- Carry out pre-checks
- Set the dump truck for site and road travel
- Travel the dump truck over differing types of terrain
- Travel up and down substantial inclines
- Manoeuvre in confined areas
- Position the dump truck to receive loads
- Explain precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards
- Comply with loading procedures
- Ensure load integrity and security
- Discharge loads into trenches or over edges
- Place the dump truck in an out-of-service condition
Maximum Numbers
A maximum number of 4 people can be trained at one time.
Venue
The training can be carried out on any site, providing the following equipment is available:
- Serviceable rear tipping rigid chassis type dump truck with the operators manual
- A means of loading the dump truck
- A designated unloading area
- A driving area which must include:
- Uneven, rough terrain
- A slope of not less than 18%
- A straight run of at least 50 metres
